Mohawk protesters have up the ante in their bid to send a strong message to Ottawa.

Police are reporting that since 10:15 a.m. Saturday, protesters started occupying the CN rail crossing at Wyman Rd., outside Belleville, Ont., forcing the rail company to put a stop order on all trains using that line.

Via Rail has also halted passenger trains on the Toronto-Montreal and Toronto-Ottawa lines because of the blockade.

OPP said four people have been taken into custody.

Shannonville Rd., blocked since Sunday, is now cleared as the group shift their attention to blocking rail traffic.

As a result, Wyman Rd. is closed to traffic and police are asking motorist to avoid the area by following detours around the scene.

Lead protester Shawn Brant issued warnings Friday that he was cooking up a response to the federal government’s decision to shelve any possibility of an inquiry.
