CALGARY -- A German heli-skier was killed after being caught in an avalanche north of Revelstoke, B.C.

Police say the 45-year-old man was buried when a slide big enough to take out mature trees came down about 11 a.m. Monday.

The victim was buried under three metres of snow, police say.

"He wasn't located for a period of time," Revelstoke RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said. "When he was located he was provided medical treatment (CPR) but he succumbed to his injuries."

Grabinsky said there appears to have been one other injury to a member of the man's group, but he didn't believe that person was ever buried.

"It appears that (the deceased) was the only one caught in it," he said.
