TORONTO — Mayor Rob Ford’s votes against honouring Nelson Mandela and Canadian Olympic athletes made for some more late-night jokes Wednesday from Jimmy Kimmel and former U.S. president Bill Clinton.

On Wednesday, Ford was the lone member of council to vote against separate motions to look at naming a street in honour of Nelson Mandela and to congratulate Canada’s Olympic athletes. About half an hour later, Ford tried and failed to get council to let him change his votes.

He later claimed he had made a mistake when he voted against both motions.

Not surprisingly, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel mentioned the Ford gaffes in his monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“Oops...he said he pressed the wrong button. His fingers get slippery from the Buffalo wings sometimes,” Kimmel joked.

“Finally a leader who is not afraid to take a stand against athletic excellence and Nelson Mandela.

“Come on Toronto, how can you not re-elect this guy? He’s the best, and by the way, it’s Wednesday, this is the first mistake he’s made all week.”

Later in the show, Kimmel interviewed Clinton and asked if he’d been following the news about Ford. Kimmel joked about Ford being a possible running mate or secretary of state nominee for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“He has absolutely destroyed every stereotype people have about Canadians,” Clinton told Kimmel.

“The Canadians are upbeat, optimistic, can-do, they are embracing, they are inclusive.

“Everything I ever believed about Canadians, ol’ Rob has proved...stereotypes are not good, positive or negative I guess.”

Clinton is the second former U.S. president to laugh about Ford on a late-night comedy show.

Last November, former president George W. Bush joked about Ford with then-Tonight Show host Jay Leno while talking about his open heart surgery.

“Any advice to the mayor of Toronto?” Leno asked Bush. “Maybe send him an exercise bike?”

Bush threw his head back and laughed.

“Have an annual physical,” he said.
