DORSET, Ont. – An 80-year-old man was treated for hypothermia and other minor injuries after his plane broke through the ice Monday afternoon on Little Trading Bay, just east of Dorset, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police said Donald Shortreed managed to escape from the 1977 Citabria single-engine plane and was treading water when he was rescued, police said.

It happened around 1:45 p.m., police said, when the private plane was taxiing on the bay, which is part of Lake of Bays.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating.
