The Ontario government has no plans to hand over the operations of the Pickering and Darlington nuclear facilities to the private sector, Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli says.

Chiarelli was asked during Question Period Wednesday about statements made by Bruce Power CEO Duncan Hawthorne during a Toronto Sun editorial board indicating the company is interested in taking on Ontario’s entire nuclear fleet.

“The government is not currently looking at the disposing of any of our energy companies,” Chiarelli said.

Currently, Bruce Power leases and operates eight nuclear reactors at a plant on the shores of Lake Huron.
