CALGARY - It is expected Ken Hughes will become the first candidate vying to be Alberta’s next Tory leader.

Hughes is scheduled to make five announcement appearances across the province in 24 hours, starting with his “emotional home” of Longview, Alta.

His tour also includes stops in Calgary, Red Deer and Leduc Friday and Grande Prairie on Saturday.

And while he wouldn’t out-and-out say he’ll announce his candidacy, he isn’t disputing the purpose of his visits.

“There’s a time and a place for everything and on Friday the time and the place is Longview,” Hughes told QMI Agency Thursday night.

“Longview is obviously an emotional anchor and it speaks to my roots.

“And all of those other locations have their own character and their own audience ... how do you cover a province in five stops?”
