TORONTO -- Thousands of people are expected at the Toronto Congress Centre Thursday night for the launch of Mayor Rob Ford’s re-election campaign.

Ford will take the stage for a 20-minute speech after an introduction from Councillor Doug Ford — his campaign manager and staunchest defender throughout his term.

The first 1,000 Ford supporters at the 6:30 p.m. event have been promised a free T-shirt and flag but Doug Ford is predicting “thousands and thousands of people” will turn out and fill the Congress Centre in support of his brother.

“Nothing is going to compare to this, nothing,” Ford said Wednesday night. “I have an idea (on the turnout) but I’m not going to mention a number, it is staggering. “It is going to make (the other campaign launches) look like a tea party.”
