GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. -- A car accident involving three vehicles has claimed the life of a four-year-old boy.

The collision happened Tuesday morning during rush hour on Highway 43.

The boy was taken to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, where he died Thursday morning as a result of his injuries, Cpl. Roy Kennedy said.

Three others, including another child, were transported to a local hospital, but police had no further information on their conditions.

The child's name is not being released at this time.

RCMP is investigating the crash.

Early reports indicate that a westbound vehicle collided with two other westbound vehicles before crossing eastbound lanes and coming to a stop on a grassy area.
