OTTAWA - Canada has imposed yet another round of economic sanctions and travel bans against key Russians and Ukrainian separatists to protest the illegal occupation of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said those sanctioned "have facilitated Russia's violation" of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"The situation in Ukraine constitutes a grave breach of international peace and security," he said in a statement. "The international community will continue to apply pressure until Russia de-escalates. (Vladimir) Putin's aggression will not go unanswered."

Previous sanctions imposed by Canada, the European Union and the United States have done little to deter pro-Russian activists from seeking to break away from eastern Ukraine.

Russia annexed Crimea on the Black Sea earlier this year despite threats of sanctions.

Monday's new bans and sanctions included military personnel and leaders of uprisings in some of the regions in eastern Ukraine under siege.
