EDMONTON -- Taxpayers were billed hundreds of thousands for increased security demands for former premier Alison Redford.

Documents released through freedom of information and privacy laws by the provincial government contain invoices billed to the Alberta Justice's executive protection unit (EPU), the premier's trained security unit, that cost Albertans more than $450,000 over a 14-month period beginning in November 2012.

In an e-mail sent on Nov. 16, 2012, written by Insp. Bruce Cruikshank of the executive protection unit to a senior Calgary Police Service (CPS) officer, Cruikshank outlines the need for extra security personnel.
