TORONTO - Muffin to see here.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is defending her expensing of meals, including small items like a muffin and tea, after repeatedly blasting six-figure public sector CEOs and consultants for doing the same thing.

“I travel around this province quite a bit. I’m on the road very, very regularly. I try to keep my expenses as low as possible,” Horwath said Saturday. “Before I submit them, I pass them through the integrity commissioner and that’s the process that I use.”

Ontario Liberal Freedom of Information documents show Horwath routinely charged for fish dinners, shrimp salad lunches, and muffins, bagels and teas for breakfast.

At the same time, the NDP leader was highly critical of well-paid public servants who put “coffee and tea and muffins” on the taxpayers’ tab.
