Police in New Brunswick are investigating after finding a senior dead in an inflatable dingy Friday.

In a news release issued Saturday, RCMP said a 66-year-old woman from Moncton was found in the dinghy that got caught in the changing tide in the Northumberland Strait.

They said they responded to a call of a person in distress at about 8 p.m. Friday and that the Canadian Coast Guard and firefighters from the River John Volunteer Fire Department searched for the woman and found the dinghy a short time later.

The Halifax Chronicle Herald reported that the woman was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital in New Glasgow.

The woman's name has not been released.
