TORONTO — Could Mayor Rob Ford be headed to court for another lengthy trial?
According to his lawyer, Gavin Tighe, if a three-judge panel at Ontario’s appeal court overturns a ruling which cleared Ford of an alleged defamation suit in 2012, a new trial would be required.
Before Ford’s legal team could mount an in-depth defence against the claims of Boardwalk Cafe operator George Foulidis, the case was punted from court, he said.
“Our position is it would be difficult to deal with the defences without having a new trial,” Tighe said. “They weren’t dealt with at the first trial, the judge never got there. He threw the case out before we got to the defences.”
