QUEBEC CITY — Parti Quebecois MNA Pierre Karl Peladeau, controlling shareholder of Quebecor Inc., suffered multiple fractures in a bicycle crash on Sunday.

The crash occurred in Quebec's Eastern Townships, the PQ said in a statement.

Peladeau's life isn't in danger, but in a statement the 52-year-old said, "unfortunately, this bicycle accident will keep me in bed for a while."

The media mogul-turned politician is currently in hospital in Sherbrooke, Que., about two hours east of Montreal.

He missed the start of the new legislative session on Tuesday.

Legislature members are sitting for the first time since the Liberals trounced the PQ in the April 7 election.

PQ Leader Pauline Marois was one of several big-name separatists to lose their seats, but Peladeau won his riding and is considered a possible candidate to replace her.

He announced his candidacy for the Saint-Jerome riding in March and quit as chairman of Quebecor, parent company of QMI Agency and Sun Media.
