WELLAND -- Customers scattered after a truck barrelled into a store in Port Colborne Tuesday afternoon.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Store clerk Tracy Kennedy was tending to three customers and set to answer the phone, when suddenly "a very huge, loud bang" interrupted everything inside the Portal Village Market store.

"I freaked and said 'Get out of the way!'" Kennedy said. "Everything was coming forward."

A black Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck came crashing through the store's large sectional window, smashing into two large ice-cream coolers and pushing them into store shelves.

Wood and glass was scattered among toppled cases of water, paper towels and potato chips.

"It's a mess," said Kennedy, still visibly shaken about 45 minutes after the crash.

Niagara Regional Police Sgt. Bill Gurney said the 63-year-old driver said one of his Velcro shoes may have got caught up in the truck's gas pedal.
