A coroner has identified an American man shot and killed while bear hunting in northern British Columbia earlier this week.

Jeffrey Cooper of Toutle, Wash., was found dead by RCMP in the Tahtsa Reach Forest Service area on Monday afternoon, a Houston RCMP release said.

Cooper, 59, was bear hunting with guides in the area when he was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, RCMP say.

No further details have been released by RCMP as the investigation into the death continues.

Members of the Houston RCMP, North District Major Crime unit, the North District Forensic Identification Unit and the BC Conservation Service are investigating the incident.
