OTTAWA - The NDP is on the hook for $1.17 million in misspent House of Commons resources after the board of internal economy (BOIE) found the official Opposition broke parliamentary bylaws with its mailings to 26 ridings.

The deadline for repayment is unclear, but House rules dictate that individual MPs are responsible for repaying inappropriately spent House funds.

At an announcement Wednesday evening, BOIE spokesman, Tory MP John Duncan, said the decision was made after an "ongoing and lengthy investigation," and that it was determined the NDP broke the rules.
