OTTAWA – Canada said it supports the Ukrainian president’s refusal to renew a ceasefire against pro-Russian rebels but stopped short of announcing more sanctions against Russia.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko broke the 10-day ceasefire on Monday and ordered attacks against what he called “terrorists, militants and marauders.”

Adam Hodge, the press secretary to Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, said Canada “continues to support (Ukraine’s) peace plan.

“Canada will continue to work closely with its allies and partners and take any further actions required to support stability and security in the region.”
