CALGARY -- A woman died from severe burns she sustained from falling into firepit at a central Alberta campground.

Police say the 53-year-old woman fell into the blaze early Sunday at a private campground north of Torrington, 160 km northeast of Calgary.

RCMP Cpl. Sharon Franks said the woman was rushed to hospital in Red Deer, Alta., before being flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills hospital in Calgary.

By 8:30 a.m. Sunday she was pronounced dead with severe burns covering most of her body.

Franks said investigators don't believe the fall was suspicious and are still determining whether an autopsy will be performed.

The woman's identity has not been released as family are still being notified, Franks said.
