CALGARY — Now in its second week, the search related to a missing Calgary family expanded Monday.

At least four separate locations — all within a few kilometres of each other near the northeast end of Airdrie, Alta. — were the subjects of police focus Monday.

One location is an acreage police were led to by a tip and descended on last Friday.

There, they seized a green Ford F-150 truck matching the description of one seen in the Parkhill area of Calgary where Alvin and Kathryn Liknes and their five-year-old grandson Nathan O'Brien disappeared.

All three were reported missing the morning of June 30 after Nathan's mom went to the Liknes home to get her son, who had slept over the night before following his grandparents' estate sale.

On Friday, police took a person of interest named Douglas Garland in for questioning, but he has not been charged in relation to the case. He did, however, appear in court via CCTV Monday on unrelated matters.

As of Monday afternoon, police were still holding the Airdrie acreage, with a number of vehicles, including RCMP special tactical operations trucks blocking the driveway.

Meanwhile, a second area just north of the property that includes a marsh and pond was being searched.

A forensics team from Calgary were also at the pond area Monday.

Later, a handful of officers and a K-9 unit began a grid search in a grassy space off the road that runs between the acreage and the pond area.

Anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Nathan O'Brien and Alvin and Kathryn Liknes is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
