QUEBEC CITY, Que. — A Quebec City woman had to be rushed to hospital after she was bitten by a scorpion that had hidden in her sneaker when she packed up to leave Nicaragua last month.

Florence Rancourt De Roy returned to Quebec on June 22 and was in the mood to go for a jog. She told QMI Agency she put on her shoes and immediately felt a pinch.

"I could feel something in the bottom of the shoe, so I took it off and put my hand in to see what it was," she said. "That's when I got bit."

Within minutes, De Roy couldn't move her hand. Fifteen minutes later, her face, tongue and lips felt sore.

De Roy was going into shock and was rushed to the hospital. She was told the symptoms would go away within several hours.

"By the next day, I felt fine," she said. "Next time, I'll check my clothes before I pack up."
