Via Rail says service between Toronto and Ottawa will resume Saturday as cleanup efforts continue following a train derailment west of Brockville Thursday.

Via didn't say when trains would start rolling again but said passengers should expect delays throughout the weekend.

Twenty-five rail cars went off the tracks, creating a series of delays Thursday. Of those, 12 contained fuel residue, five were carrying carbon powder, two were hauling automobiles and six were empty platform cars.

There were small spills of both fuel residue and carbon powder, though they were minor in nature, a CN spokeswoman said.

The CN Rail track was closed to all traffic on Thursday, but reopened early Friday morning to freight trains.
