TORONTO — The mother of a young woman who plunged to her death from a balcony at a downtown highrise earlier this month says “somebody has done this to her.”

Meghan Hester, 20, was found on the ground outside an apartment building at 50 Stephanie St. shortly after 2:30 a.m. July 4.

“In my heart of hearts, I think that somebody has done this to her,” Meghan’s mother, Jennifer Ruston, told QMI Agency.

“She was happy, outgoing and a fun-loving person. I know her and I know this wasn’t a suicide.”

Several people called police about a disturbance in the apartment prior to Meghan’s death.

“She was alive when police arrived but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after at St. Michael’s hospital,” Det. Lorenzo Lombardi said.

He said police have several witnesses and haven’t ruled out the possibility she was pushed.

Meghan is from Midland, Ont., and her mother said she moved to Toronto last February to work as a canvasser for a local charity.
