A Canadian tourist had to be rescued after he got stuck on a ledge on South Africa's Table Mountain, according to a local report.

The man identified by Eyewitness News as Reuben Schiff, 38, spent more than 12 hours on the mountain in Cape Town, where the temperatures dropped from 23 C in the early afternoon to 6 C overnight.

He took the cable car up Tuesday afternoon and got stuck when he tried to walk back down, the report said.

He called for help in the early morning hours and was airlifted to safety.

Schiff told the news station he took naps every 30 minutes to keep up his strength.

He was unharmed, the report said.
