TORONTO - A seven-year-old girl has died after being hit by a vehicle in Leaside Wednesday afternoon.

The girl was struck at the intersection of McCrae Dr. and Millwood Rd. just after 4 p.m. A vehicle travelling southbound on McCrae was attempting to make a left-hand turn when the girl was struck, Toronto Police Const. Clint Stibbe said.

“The indications are that she was by herself but her mother was in the area,” Stibbe said.

The girl was rushed to Sick Kids hospital. Toronto EMS spokesman Kim McKinnon said she had suffered “traumatic injuries” to the head and was treated on scene by paramedics.

Stibbe said investigators remain at the intersection and expect it to be closed for several hours.

Stibbe confirmed a 50-year-old man was driving the vehicle and remained at the scene. It’s too early to determine what caused the accident and if charges will be laid, he said.

“At this point, basically, (police will) look at the entire situation to determine what exactly happened,” he said.
