TORONTO — The seven-year-old daughter of the Conservative Party of Canada's president was killed after being hit by a car in Toronto on Wednesday.

A statement on behalf of John Walsh's family was sent to the media Thursday morning confirming the death of Georgia, 7.

"The Walsh family; John, Jillian, Duncan, Liam and Finn are saddened to inform you that their beautiful daughter and wonderful sister Georgia has passed," read the statement. "Taken from them suddenly in an accident today, the family asks that they be given their space and privacy to come to terms with this incredible loss."

The girl was crossing a street around 4 p.m. when a car made a left-hand turn and hit the child, police said.

On Walsh's Facebook page, Georgia is shown in a number of family photos, including one posing with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2011.

No charges have been laid against the 50-year-old driver. The investigation is ongoing.
