OTTAWA -- The lawyer representing suspended Senator Mike Duffy's reported Peruvian lovechild says the Canadian parliamentarian needs to "rise to the occasion" and recognize that he is the father of Karen Duffy Benites.

Lawyer Jorge Alejandro Razuri Susoni, who represents Karen Duffy and her mother, Yvette Benites, told QMI Agency in an email Monday that he hasn't heard from the senator since the case was reported in Canadian media last week.

Karen Duffy, now in her 30s and living in Lima, Peru, says she is the product of a fling between the senator and her Peruvian mother who had been convicted of drug smuggling in Canada in the late 70s.
