TORONTO — Toronto Transit Comission CEO Andy Byford says he's "shocked" by a YouTube video showing a city bus blowing a red light and nearly hitting a pedestrian.

The TTC has launched an investigation into the incident that a witness said happened Monday morning.

The video shows the bus in the curb as it approaches an intersection. The light appears to already be red as the bus pulls past stopped cars and into the intersection. Once in the intersection, the bus swerves into the centre lane to avoid a pedestrian who has started to cross the street.

Although the video has a 2012 date stamp on it, the ad on the bus is for the movie, Lucy, which is set to hit theatres later this month.

"This guy, he doesn't have time for your red lights!" wrote the YouTube user who posted the video.

TTC officials admitted they have "great concerns" about the incident.

Byford said the video surprised him.

"I was shocked when I saw it," he said Wednesday at City Hall. "The overwhelming majority of our operators are professional drivers who do their job diligently and safely day in and day out.

"It is because we are so concerned about the content of that video that we're taking this very seriously. An investigation is underway and any action taken as a result of that investigation will ensue."
