Two people were killed after their plane crashed on a golf course in Nanaimo, B.C., Saturday evening.

Bill Yearwood, a spokesman with the Transportation Safety Board, told Global News that a private aircraft took off from the Nanaimo Airport in Cassidy at about 7 p.m. local time and crashed shortly after at the Cottonwood Golf Course nearby.

There were two people on board the amphibious plane, the pilot and a passenger, and both died in the crash.

“We do know there were several witnesses at the golf course so we’re anticipating to get some information from those witnesses and the local RCMP is gathering statements and information for us,” Yearwood told Global.
