TORONTO - A painstaking effort to assess and clear damage done to the Burlington Skyway took a step forward Saturday.

Crews removed a dump truck and other vehicles involved in the crash as part of the careful effort to get one of the province’s busiest traffic arteries flowing again. Ministry of Transportation officials have been on scene since Thursday’s crash.

With the vehicles removed “the MTO and engineers can keep working on the cleanup of the scaffolding and steel debris,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

Schmidt said the MTO crew has, to this point, been unable to complete a structural analysis of the bridge with the vehicles in the way.

“The risk of integrity needed to be assessed before we did too much work,” he said.
