Paul Estrin resigned Tuesday as president of the Green Party of Canada following a controversial blog post about the fighting in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

The blog was titled "Why Gaza makes me sad" and posted to the members' section of the party's website.

"My intention was to give my personal viewpoint to our members in the spirit of dialogue," Estrin said in an Aug. 2 Facebook update. "Some have mistaken my personal views to be the perspective of the party and our leader. Neither is true."

In the July 25 post, Estrin expressed some support for Israel's offensive against Hamas on the Gaza Strip and said he feels "peace will take a miracle."

The post has since been removed.

"I never intended to create confusion or have any of my actions negatively impact the party," he said.
