WINNIPEG ─ A contender in Winnipeg's mayoral race has come under fire after a social media post from his wife denigrating aboriginals circulated late Friday afternoon.

Lorrie Steeves, the wife of candidate Gord Steeves, wrote in February 2010 that she "is really tired of getting harassed (sic) by the drunken native guys in the skywalks" and asserted "we all donate enough money to the government to keep their sorry assess (sic) on welfare, so shut the f--- up and don't ask me for another handout!"

The posting, which was publicly viewable on Lorrie Steeves' Facebook page Friday afternoon, was re-published on Twitter hours after Gord Steeves held a press conference to unveil strategies for cleaning up downtown.
