TORONTO -- Ontario Health Minister Eric Hoskins praised the province's health-care system after a patient at Brampton Civic Hospital tested negative for the deadly Ebola virus.

Hoskins released a statement Sunday lauding "the health care workers and public health officials involved in the case for their tireless work," and insisting that "Ontarians should know that we are fully prepared should any cases appear in the province."

The patient had recently travelled to Canada from West Africa and was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital late last week after displaying symptoms associated with the early stages of the virus: fever, headache, muscle pain and malaise, for example.

Isolation of the patient was done as a precautionary measure, Hoskins said.
