TORONTO - The debate over electronic cigarettes has spread to Queen’s Park.

Ontario Health Minister Eric Hoskins has asked ministry staff to look into the use of e-cigarettes after Toronto Public Health officials raised concerns that they promote regular smoking, especially among the young.

“They raised some important questions,” Hoskins said Wednesday. “It’s a relatively new phenomena ... we have a responsibility at all levels of government, frankly, to stay ahead of this and put in place whatever measures are necessary based on the evidence, based on the science, that are in the public interest.”
