Man struck and killed while smoking on sidewalk

TORONTO - A man in his 60s is dead after he was mowed down on the sidewalk outside a downtown men's hostel early Monday.

The man was struck when a westbound SUV mounted the curb around 1:25 a.m. as he was smoking with another man outside the Good Shepherd Ministries on Queen St. near Parliament St.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 48-year-old man who was with him suffered minor injuries.
