BROCKVILLE, Ont. — Police were searching a wooded area Wednesday morning after missing QMI Agency sports editor Steve Pettibone's car was found west of Brockville, Ont., on Tuesday evening.

Pettibone's 2013 Kia Rio was found near Lyn around 6:15 p.m.

After calling off a search due to darkness setting in Tuesday, police search crews started scouring the area again early Wednesday.

Police asked for the public’s assistance after Pettibone vanished without a trace while on his way to work at the Brockville Recorder and Times on Monday morning. He left his Belleville home, about 160 kms away, at 7:30 a.m. but never arrived at work.

Det.-Const. Jeremy Ashley of the Belleville Police Service would not speculate on the case.

“We're not ruling anything out at this point,” Ashley said. “We are not going to narrow the focus of our investigation into one area.”

The OPP's forensic identification unit was to comb over Pettibone's car for clues at an inspection facility.

“His colleagues in the newsroom are very concerned for his well-being,” Recorder and Times managing editor Derek Gordanier wrote in a plea for information.

“Steve has always been a conscientious and hard-working employee and we knew on Monday that something was seriously amiss when Steve failed to report to work by mid morning.”

The night before he went missing, he had texted with a fellow reporter and tweeted about the Blue Jays. On Monday morning, he said goodbye to his partner Michelle, and said he was on his way to work.

“All seemed right and normal with our friend,” Gordanier said.

Pettibone is five-foot-10, 190 lbs., with brown eyes. He’s balding, has brown hair and a goatee.

He was wearing a blue jacket with a hood, blue jeans and Converse-style shoes around the time he was last seen.

The public is asked to contact Belleville police at 613-966-0882 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 with any information regarding Pettibone's whereabouts.
