EDMONTON ─ Albertans chose realism over graphic design for the province's new licence plate, but a final plate design won't be revealed until the provincial government has combed through mountains of feedback.

On Wednesday, Service Alberta spokesperson Kathleen Range said almost 165,000 people voted in the poll to choose between three designs by Minnesota-based 3M, all replacing the Wild Rose Country slogan with Alberta.ca.

The photo-realistic mountain ranges earned 79,734 votes, edging out a minimalist graphic design which earned 75,090 votes. A third option received only 9,753 votes.

"You can see from the results that there's people on one side or the other. There's a lot of us, 45% of us, who really like the graphic design version and then there's the other 48% that like the realistic look," said Range.
