TORONTO - A 75-year-old woman is dead and a 77-year-old man is in serious condition after they were struck by a van in the city’s east end Wednesday afternoon.

The fatal collision occurred at the corner of Victoria Park Ave. and O’Connor Dr., after a white safari van making a left turn hit the two seniors in a crosswalk.

Toronto Police confirmed the woman was pronounced dead on scene while the man was taken to hospital in serious condition. Officers have yet to confirm the relationship between the two.

The call came in around 4:40 p.m. The two seniors were crossing eastbound at the crosswalk while the westbound van — driven by a 58-year-old man — was making a left south onto Victoria Park Ave., according to Traffic Services Const. Hugh Smith.
