TORONTO — A woman is in custody after a car smashed into a Oshawa, Ont., home and burst into flames early Friday.

Witnesses say the Pontiac Sunfire left Bloor St. W., mounted the curb, smashed through a small concrete barrier at the edge of a driveway and then went airborne for about 15 metres before crashing through the side of a small bungalow, coming to rest almost entirely inside the home's living room.

The car severed a natural gas line and started a fire.

The residents, asleep in the back of the home at the time, were unhurt and the home was evacuated, as was an apartment building next door.
