Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver’s criticism of Ontario’s fiscal struggles was not “helpful,” especially when his government made the situation worse, Premier Kathleen Wynne says.

“Instead of attacking us wouldn’t it make more sense to work with us?” Wynne said in an interview Friday. “Joe Oliver’s constituents are the same as my constituents. He’s an Ontario MP and it seems to me that what is in the best interest of Ontarians is ultimately in the best interest of the country and vice versa.”

Oliver told Toronto Sun columnist Christina Blizzard this week that Ontario should not continue accumulating debt at a rate faster than any other provincial or federal government, arguing it’s unfair to spend today and expect children and grandchildren to pick up the tax tab down the road.
