Forty people have been evacuated after a train derailed in the border town of Emerson.

Two cars containing unscented propane derailed near the corner of 5th Street East and Taylor Avenue in the small town. RCMP note the evacuation of the 40 residents, who all live within 100 metres of the site, is strictly precautionary, as there is no fire and no leaks have been detected.

Nobody was injured in the derailment. Local fire departments are on scene.

Emerson is located about 90 kilometres south of Winnipeg, near the U.S. border.

The investigation continues.
