LONDON, Ont. — Separated by a border, two families are suddenly struggling to cope with the secret an Ontario man believed to be dead kept from both for nearly 40 years.

In Ontario, the family of Ron Stan learned that he didn't die at age 32 in a barn fire north of London, Ont., in 1977.

In Oklahoma and Louisiana, the family of Jeff Walton learned he had a secret past north of the border that included a wife and two adult sons.

The Ontario Provincial Police provided the public link between the two families when it said Monday investigators who quietly reopened the case last month traced Stan, 69, to Oklahoma, where he's living under the name Jeff Walton.

Police said the case was closed and no charges would be laid.

Stan's first wife and younger son live blocks apart in a quiet west London neighbourhood.
