OTTAWA — A standoff in Gatineau, Que., is over, but a manhunt continues for a suspect who fired off several rounds, shutting down two schools Thursday morning.

Police surrounded an apartment building across the river from Ottawa, where they believed a man was holed-up following a report of gunfire at about 1:30 a.m.

Two men were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while a third man fled into a nearby apartment.

Cops say the gunfire was the result of an escalating fight.

But after most of the morning, police removed the barricade and said they came up empty handed.

A manhunt continued, but police wouldn't say if they know who the suspect is or if they knew where he lives.

Philemon Wright High School and Hadley Junior High were to remain closed all day.
