This is ridiculous. I would have had my wedding in Mexico but with all the crap there I am going to DR instead. There should be strong travel advisories against going there and YES, our cowardly government should demand action and warn every person from Canada NOT to go there. We need to send a strong message to those people that we will not put up with this. If it were my family member that was injured, or killed there I would go down with a gun and shoot every Mexican involved in the drug trade in the back.

I am a Canadian and I have brought my wife and children to live here in Bucerias, Mexico - just outside Puerto Vallarta. Bad things happen to good people, but there is no more concern for safety here than anywhere I have lived through out Canada. I feel safe and very much appreciate the Mexican families we walk amongst each day. We go into surrounding small towns on a weekly basis, and not had trouble.

I even created a website to help build the confidence of people coming down here. I was afraid of walking certain streets in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary - I feel safer here. They try not to bother foreigners because that just hurts their chances of supporting themselves from the travelers. They are polite and warm if you greet them with a smile and a spanish greeting! The right loved Glenn beck up until he lost the ability to close his mouth. Are you guys just mad I pointed out someone on the far right who any sane minded person would know is eroding civilized society? How about you guys come up with a name for someone who represents the extreme left (censorship, coddling and the whole hoopla) who's also a waste of oxygen and we can all (for a second) pretend that we're all sane individuals standing in the middle knowing that liberalism and conservatism both have their places in modern day society.

It is unfortunate that these things are happening to tourists. But I am having difficulty being sympathetic to people who know the risks and still place themselves in harm's way. I read a book recently about the murders of hundreds of young women (mostly factory workers) in Juarez and the amount of corruption that exists that allowed this to continue...and then there is the fact that NAFTA has paved the way for Mexico to traffic so many drugs to the U.S. and the corruption that surrouneds that. Personally I will stay away from there.
