OSHAWA, Ont. -- A Grade 11 student slain outside his school Tuesday was remembered as a friendly athlete whose only enemy was the young man accused of killing him.
It was about 2:15 p.m. when what police called "an ongoing dispute" between two students came to a head at a bus stop across the street from Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School at Stevenson and Rossland Rds.
While police said it wasn't clear whether one of the two students involved instigated the fight that broke out, witness Samantha Passero said the dispute was "mutual."
It wasn't long before 16-year-old Michael "Biggie" MacDonald Jr. collapsed with stab wounds near the bus stop. He died in hospital before his parents had a chance to say goodbye.
An 18-year-old classmate was arrested nearby "within minutes," Durham Regional Police spokesman Dave Selby said.

As an adult you have always felt disenfranchised by society because no one takes you seriously (as if!) now as an adult you cannot bully the smaller and weaker of society because that may have consequences which as cowards you abhor.

Brucey in the 16 years I spent in the education system (12 years in grade school and a 4 year University honours program) there was not 1 incidence of a teen bringing or using a gun on campus. So, it is obvious to every Canadian, which you are not, that violence has escalated both in frequency and in kind regardless of the doubling of population. (2X0 is 0 Brucey)
If you believe Stats Canada is a reliable source for anything, research their stats on the "Employment Tax Credit Program". It is claimed that it was the most successful make-work program in Canadian history. I worked for the CEIC on that program and it did not create ANY jobs. You, Brucey are not Canadian and are not qualified to speak on ANY issues regarding Canada.

Well I think we have the definative answer to this question provided by the government today Nov 14, 2008 who released: The "Roots of Youth Violence" report
Quoting right from the news report, which proves most of us right and those living in a bubble wrong, states very clearyl:
"The report also said youth violence is escalating, more guns are being drawn, and that violence is happening more frequently in public places".
This should silence those who argue otherwise but we know it won't they'll say it is a conspiracy or something like that. A thought just came to me, maybe we have some science fiction writers using their ideas on us?? What a concept, nahh their not that good.

Why wouldn't our youth be more violent and getting away with it particularly when they see a mass murderer like David Shearing out on a day pass.This monster killed a grand-mother,a grand-father,a mother,a dad and two little girls who he kidnapped and sexually brutalized for a period of time.Thirteen steps and a strong piece of rope should have been his reward but oh no that pseudo intellect Trudeau put a stop to that kind of real justice!!!

Statistics are based on the the number of people in a given age range over a period of time and adjusted for the increase in population.
When statscan crunches the numbers and comes up with a statisical average it is adjusted for population growth.
When giving thought to a question such as this, one needs to consider the increase in the countrys population, Canada has doubled its population in the last 40 years.
There are a lot more "teens" around these days, but on average and statisically, they are not getting more violent.

yes. Teens are getting more violent. They don't seem to have much respect for their elders and don't care who they talk back to. One day, I was struggling with a baby stroller trying to get up the stairs of the subway with my child in one hand, stroller in the other and my work bag, her diaper bag. A group of teens took the whole area to walk down the stairs to the subway and literally pushed me out of their way. I commented loudly, how rude that was and one of the teens said to the other "I should have shot her in the face with my gun!" I was appauled at the comment and a little scared to say the least. I was more angry that someone so young and small would prefer to shoot me than help me up the stairs. Since then, I have tried my best to instill respect in my kids daily lives. But, yes, teens are definately more violent.
I blame ignorant, stupid and lazy parents who allow their kids to question and roam the earth free without rules or discipline.

I don't care whether statistics say that violent crimes by youth are down or whatever.
That doesn't matter. The totally mindless violence and random attacks are more prevalent today.
Look at the school shootings across North America in the last few years. That was almost unheard of years ago.
The thing that I notice about some young people is that they seem to be in their own world, always having earphones on and listening to their ipod or mp3 player. It's like they don't want to socialize at all, just keep to themselves.
This is not all their fault though, as "strangers" have become more and more unfriendly. People are not as easy going and friendly as they used to be - and I suppose they young people want to block out this cold world in many cases.
Then, there are numerous kids misdiagnosed with ADHD and ADD and put on Ritalin or some other hazardous drug, then it is moved up to Prozac or some sort of anti-depressant.
It ruins lives and the kids do violent things while they're on these drugs in some cases.
