Are you in favour of a carbon tax? Thu, July 12, 2007
Is a new, revenue neutral tax the best way to fight climate change or is artificially increasing the cost of fossil fuels a foolhardy attempt to solve planet’s ills? Elizabeth May and Tom Harris battle the issue.
The world has been warming ever since the end of the ice age. Good thing we didn't have all these smart ppl around back then or we might still be living in igloos in california and fighting off wooly mammoths in Africa. What we do have to do is stop the idiots around the world that daily dump 100s of tonnes of garbage into our oceans and rivers. If we have no clean drinking water we will never have a chance to live and adapt on our ever changing(warming and cooling) planet.
Taxing the ppl is all too often the answer to every problem we face today.

The Defendants [Calgary Herald] state that the Plaintiff [Tim Ball] never held a reputation in the scientific community as a noted climatologist and authority on global warming. The particulars of the Plaintiff's reputation are as follows:
a) The Plaintiff has never published any research in any peer-reviewed scientific journal which addressed the topic of human contributions to greenhouse gass and global emissions;
b) The Plaintiff has published no papers on climatology in academically recognized peer-reviewed scientific journals since his retirement as a Professor in 1996.
c) The Plantiff's credentials and credibility as an expert on the issue of global warming have been repeatedly disparaged in the media; and
d) The Plaintiff is viewed as a paid promoter of the agenda of the oil and gas industry rather than as a practicing scientist.

I'd gladly pay a carbon tax in exchange for a lower income tax. It just makes sense to tax things that cause harm, instead of things that don't.

Before taking what is so easily gotten, the gov. must display strength and courage and go after the big industrial polluters who just so happen to be in bed with them. Good luck commensense!!!!

Utterly ridiculous, this is another Green party feel good tax that does nothing for Global warming and will stay till Canada freezes or warms up in 200 years. Why can't these Global alarmist either address the issue seriously or just slap another bumper sticker over their save Darfur and free Tibet stickers.Until Country's like China ,Russia,Mexico address this it's fruitless.

Holy carumba! I don't know why people want to be burdened with more and more taxes.
Goes against human nature and common sense.
All the government has to do is use some of the money they already have printed and also current tax money.

absolutely. Less pollution, more public transportation and fewer cretins on the road

More taxes. As if the government doesn't have enough money.
They've taken too much tax from us for the past number of years.
Gordon S., 2007-08-18 00:13:11
Maybe we should tax stupidity? The deficit would be paid off in no time!
