Do police rely too heavily on Tasers? Fri, June 19, 2009
Robert Dziekanski’s mother has filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and “cruel and unusual” treatment by the four RCMP officers who stunned her son with a Taser.
Hey JIMBO, ordinary citizens were not involved, and shouldn't be in what could have been a cut and dry situation of handling this situation in such a way that harm or death to the poor guy could have been avoided. Your comment is irrelevant.
I think the only conclusion we can draw at this point is that the video warrents serious investigation and puts out another signal that public trust of our nationl police force is eroding.

I think the Police should not use the Tasers; it would be safer to shoot their guns. If they use the Taser the suspect can still resist.

"My 20 year old son and I were talking about the taser death of a visitor to our country. We are ashamed of Canada, the police and the airport who all were obviously negligent."
While I agree with some of your statemnets, eloise, your being "ashamed of Canada" is downright ridiculous and smacks of typical "Left Coast" liberalism.
Again, the majority have rushed to judgement and jumped to conclusions.
If you were faced with an angry man, obviously upset, what would you do?
Most of you would run, not walk, to find a cop.

Didn't Frank Paul Break the Law.

My 20 year old son and I were talking about the taser death of a visitor to our country. We are ashamed of Canada, the police and the airport who all were obviously negligent.
It would have taken officials at immigration 5 minutes to fill out a visitor form in our countries language explaining where he sould be and who is picking him up.Knowing he could present this to someone if he was lost would have made his transition into the unknown more relaxing.
I imagine the police must have been trained in what warrants taser use, these two officers, through their conversation, were not sure if this was one of those times. Their superior sould be responsible for dicisions made after training because each officer is diciding on the basis of their own understanding or on how they were trained.
Canada, well what can I say? They say they do not believe in the death penaly! Or is that only if you make it to trial?

"noone is mentioning the Airport security and while they didn't do anything."
Actually Frank, lots of people are asking questions about Vancouver airport and how they are just as responsible for this mans death.
I mean, in thesw supposed secure post 9/11 days, would a man hanging around an enclosed room for all those hours, with cameras on him, not have wondered just what this man might be up to?
I would still like to hear an explanation why, before anyone knew about this video, did the cops lie several times about what happened?
EH?

First to Katherine, "Mamma needs to take some of the blame." Are you an RCMP officer protecting your own? Your comment is as disturbing as the man's death!!!
Another disturbing thing is how government authorities would not have acted had the video not been released. Solicitor General John Les only reacted, and apparently reluctantly, to begin an investigation. And what about the Airport authority, nothing until the pressure to do something as a result of the public outcry. Last, as the prison guard commented, SICDS was a factor in the man's death. What a disgrace.
Four burly officers unable in their minds to handle a situation where if an arrest was to be made of one man who offered no resistance, resorted to using a taser and then piling on him with one officer, and I use the term officer loosely, pressing his knee on the man's neck. These officers are still payed full salary while the victim will rot in the ground.

"I will reserve my thoughts until the investigation is over and "all" of the information is made public."
Well dont be sitting around waiting for it
We all know how the cops like to drag out investigations as long as possible.Knowing after awhile the public will just forget about what ever is being investigated.
I mean really, NINE YEARS after Vancouver cops dragged Frank Paul out of a jail cell, and dumped him in a cold wet alley where he died, an inquiry just last week finally got underway into the actions of these cops

Evertone is talking about the RCMP,
noone is mentioning the Airport security and while they didn't do anything.
we have to ask/wonder why was this gentleman detained for over 10 hours. Not one clueless airport employee tried to help maybe by getting an intrepitor to maybe help undrstand this mans fustrations. On a plane for a long time , doesn't speak english, and then detained. He was all alone in what is suppose to be the home of the free Canada. The airport security should around like an old Rambo movie, when they stated I'm not going in to get him, you go. Did anyone think of maybe getting a priest maybe to try and get the gentleman calmed down. As for the RCMP take them taser guns and shoot them at a family member and then jump on their body, head. would you think this mite hurt a little, the gentleman was already frightend from being detained for over 10 hours. Same story different tune, why was he detained, why was airport peronnel not doing thier job by trying to defuse the situation.in the end my friend from Poland rest in peace, and yes welcome to Canada.

I think: Mamma needs to take some of the blame. She told him to wait at the luggage carousel, and there she would meet him.If she had, none of the rest that followed would have happened!
