Do police rely too heavily on Tasers?
Fri, June 19, 2009

This would be considered torture if it had been used to extract a confession. The taser's use is clearly inhumane and must be banned. This clearly shows that police cannot be trusted to use this device and no amount of police training could re-establish the public trust in this matter. And we are worried about some Taliban that may have been tortured in Afganistan.

Four big RCMP,and they cannot subdue one unarmed man. I think the police are getting out of hand.It is very scary indeed.

this incident with the taser gun is not only one that happened in canada... there are several more... i am deaf totally deaf since birth... i would probably have communication barriers with those police officers... this makes me wonder would they taser me if i were in his shoes.. i think so yes they would because this polish immigrant has the communication barrier that i have.. i face it everyday no matter where i go .... i think nowdays police are doing lousy job... getting trained in short time.. they should go back to school and take up communication skills... to deal with deaf people and including the immigrants from all over world... they have their own language.. and i do have my own language which is sign language... it is sad this had happened.. i give my sympathies to that family that lost their son.

#1. RCMP officers charged with murder.

#2. Customs officials charged as accesories.

In response to Cannon's "response" (rage) I suspect he has been a loose "cannon" around police, which is why he hates them so much. Come on, you must have been a bad boy to have that much hate in you for people out there protecting us. The police could not calm him down, he outsized them, had a dangerous object in his hand, and as far as I am concerned, they did everything right. It was unfortunate the man had a condition that when stunned with the gun he died. That is sad, but if you ever have someone in your own home acting like that, I am sure you would call the police you obviously have a chip on your shoulder for.

It's another sad day for the RCMP. Four ninjas acting like terminators walk in, tazer this guy before the fact, kill him, and then sit on their hands waiting for a body bag. Why didn't they call for first aid help? Why did one of the ninjas put his knee on the guys neck and chock him? Did he break his neck or was he suffocated? Where is the new commissioner and his comments? The RCMP are a disgraceful farce and this kind of behaviour of dumb brute force is deplorable.

Taxpayers will get another few millions dollar hit after the court cases are over and the four misfits will enjoy more donuts and coffee as usual until their next call. We expect a full inquiry. No more internal investigations. We've had enough of the fox looking after the henhouse.

wayne, seriously. If someone pulls a gun/knife/baseball bat on a cop, use the taser. If it's 4 on 1 and the single man is holding a TV table it's a whole other story. Kill or be killed is one thing, Captain Hero and his 3 half-witted sidekicks are a whole other story altogether.

If those officers had any sense they would have offered water and a sandwich instead of there tasers. Any one would be agitated for being cooped up in an airport for so long after such a long flight. The guy was hungry, tired, thirsty and didn't speak English. While I have the deepest respect for the RCMP these four should lose there jobs and possibly be charged with manslaughter.

In our country, you need to have five years of education to be a kindergarten teacher (which is way over the top, IMHO). However, you can become a police officer after just six months of training. Something doesn't add up. We need smart, well-educated police. These guys give evidence of being neither. It's becoming a pattern in our nation that if you behave at all out of the ordinary, you're risking a violent take-down. What a shame!
