Does Earth Hour actually help the environment?
Fri, March 25, 2011

Do you plan on sitting in the dark this Saturday night?

Around the world, people will make the symbolic gesture of showing they support a cleaner world and lower-carbon lifestyle by raising their carbon output.

Earth Hour, started in 2007, encourages people to show their support for the planet by turning their lights off and enjoying the world by candlelight. The problem, of course, is for most Canadians that means turning off a low-carbon energy source and burning pure fossil fuels.

The absurdity is likely lost on most professional environmentalists.

Tweety

Just a little grammer lesson for you.

Want is something you desire, not something you have no choice in.

But continue talking in circles tweety, you giving tons of examples of people having CHOICE.

I don't know how people lived for thousands of years without fruits and vegetables shipped in from the south? Guess life expectancy was 1 winter.
wayne, 2008-03-07 14:03:28

Hey wayne.

Why dont you show me where I said, given a choice between very expensive California lettuce or much cheaper local lettuce, I said people chose the more expensive one.

wayne also says..

"Choose another cheaper food in winter."

Well maybe you wayne can live on an 89 cent box of Kraft Dinner throughout the winter while waiting for local produce and fruit returns to the shelves

Most people know that in order to be healthy, something you wayne have repeatedly told us you are not, they need to eat veggies and fruit from the south, and price really is no object

And wayne again says, sillily I may add, that he aske me, tweetypie..

"I asked for one person off the long list you supposedly have in your mind with no choice in a land that prides itself on freedom of choice."

wayne is referring to me saying that people who want to eat fresh veggies and most fruit in the winter, have no choice but to buy the 3 times more expensive stuff from California

I gave you an answer wayne.I said everyone who wants those things have no choice, because that is all there is to chose from in winter

wayne apparently survives in the winter eating Kraft Dinner and soggy lettuce he bought in the Fall

Granted if you are like us, you can have fresh carrots and potatoes in winter right out of the ground.

We grow enough because we have a huge garden that when the cold comes we cover those things with straw and then the snow covers that. Those things prevent the ground from freezing.

Of course it helps to mark the location with sticks that wont get covered by the snow

We dug up fresh potatoes on New Years day.The carrots can be iffy, but if in doubt just juice them.Carrot juice is excellent for your health.Along with regular exercise

Of course most people like wayne are too lazy to do those things

Matt wrongfully says to me, tweetypie..

"I've never seen you offer a real solution to ANY problem raised on these boards"

I must certainly have.As for this topic I have said if everyone had have been doing their part all along, as I DO, there would be no need for government forcing controls on us.

As I said earlier, right wingers to this day are still whinning that they cant poison the earth with DDT.

EH?

tweetypie, 2008-03-07 13:08:03

tweety,

Few people are in denial about climate change.

We all know the world climate changes, we've been much hotter and much colder in the past. Something the current global warming advocates like to ignore.

As far as pollution, CO2 is the least of our concerns. Particulate and toxic emissions are an extreme immediate health risk that must be addressed. China is shutting down much of their industry around the Olympics to clean the air so the athletes can breath, and look good to the world.

Tweety, for all your right wing bashing I've never seen you offer a real solution to ANY problem raised on these boards, put up or shut up.

Our whole system is flawed. Has anyone ever gone to the recycle station? I'm not talking about taking in your empty pop bottles, beer cans, and all taht jaz. I'm talking paper, batteries, old TV, Computers and so on. You have to pay for this service with the exception of paper and cardboard (that I have found so far) but you can dump it into a dumpster and not pay a cent. Would it not be better to pay through the nose to through something into the dump and recycle for free? This is not relative to the carbon tax but it is relavent to the environment. I think they are implementing the carbon tax as a bandaid solution for the environment. Tweetypie has a point when they said that no one will care about a few cents a letre at the pumps. About 12 years ago I remember gas being around 45 cent. So now it has made about 60 cent jump. People still drive big trucks, some have no choice (comercial vehicles, farmers). Just picking on section of poluters isn't going to be the fix for the environment, everyone needs to be targetted.
Dwain, 2008-03-07 11:29:01

Twit, can you keep anything straight, Choice on cars, now lettuce and you laugh at carrots, winter, summer.

Here's some simple stuff for you and choice, Choose another cheaper food in winter. Apperently your held at gun point to eat lettuce year round.

Tweety, can you understand yourself, because I certainly can't.

By the way tweety I asked for one person off the long list you supposedly have in your mind with no choice in a land that prides itself on freedom of choice.

Keep up the crap, it makes me laugh.
wayne, 2008-03-07 10:52:01

Tweety I've noticed a common theme in your posts.

Opium in Afghanastan now pot in BC.

Do you have a drug addiction?

It would explain your whacked out views.
wayne, 2008-03-07 08:10:39

john correctly says..

"you idiot all people are quilty of harming the environment"

True.

But most right wingers deny there is a problem.Prefering to leave it to future generations to deal with.

Thats because most right wingers are old and could care less how bad the environment is, and most certainly care less about climate change

EH?
tweetypie, 2008-03-06 21:32:33

wayne asks me ,tweetypie, to..

"quote me the people who have no choice"

By that wayne means the people who have no choice but to pay three times more for produce in winter than they do in summer

wayne says the list is short.

Well the list is long

Every single person who wants lettuce in the middle of winter, will to pay 3 times more for that lettuce than they would in summer

See once again wayne is saying people can choose between more expensive lettuce from California or cheaper local produce.

Well no you cant.

When local is on the shelf, Californian is not, and vice versa

Wayne is also saying there are huge HUGE greenhouses growing fields of potatoes and corn and melons in the middle of winter in Canada

Silly wayne

EH?
tweetypie, 2008-03-06 21:29:34

Twit you idiot all people are quilty of harming the environment but you true to your hate mentality have to make it political. You`re giving stupid people a good name.

Anybody see an oil pipeline around here? seems to one missing in Afghanistan.
john, 2008-03-06 13:45:37
