Does Earth Hour actually help the environment? Fri, March 25, 2011
Do you plan on sitting in the dark this Saturday night?
Around the world, people will make the symbolic gesture of showing they support a cleaner world and lower-carbon lifestyle by raising their carbon output.
Earth Hour, started in 2007, encourages people to show their support for the planet by turning their lights off and enjoying the world by candlelight. The problem, of course, is for most Canadians that means turning off a low-carbon energy source and burning pure fossil fuels.
The absurdity is likely lost on most professional environmentalists.
The entire global warming thing is a science that is incredibly dubious in nature.
As I mentioned earlier that we forget 10 years ago, we were all going to be burned by the hole in the ozone. Funny, we are still here.
The top scientists worldwide cant agree if the planet is warmer or cooler recently (CNN/NASA study).
The environmental movement is just another form of social engineering. The environmentalist is one that would adhere to the thought that "Gaia" needs to be cleansed of those pesky humans. Those fuel eating tree chopping humans.
Carbon taxing is just another way to fatten government. It just becomes another form of revenue.
Plus, dont mess with Alberta. It's separist movement is lawyers, doctors and the highly trained. Last time is was farmers and the like.
Canada needs Alberta, ALberta doesn't need Canada.
There is an undercurrent of discontent there that could catch fire quickly and make the Quebec problem of '05 seem like a picnic.

Keep up with the Nanny State socialist solutions Wayne ,and you won't have any freedoms .First solution is always a feel good tax . History shows it's business that comes up with the solutions so logic would dictate give them the tax breaks and keep the Government out of it. These Global alarmist seem like quite the totalitarians.

wayne,
So only charge Canadians the carbon tax?
How do we know at point of sale their carbon footprint?
A local carrot would have one tax, and a similar carrot from further away would have a higher tax?
One carbon tax on service charges for the bank with no solar panels, another for 1 solar panel, and a third for 2 solar panels?
This won't help our clean up our manufacturing for exported production either, since those companies won't pay any carbon tax.
What type of tax will we charge on imported items?
I don't see how a POS carbon tax could work.

You don't have to make our products expensive outside canada.
Only canadians pay the GST. when its exported the cost is less than GST. Do the same with a carbon tax. Charge it to products sold in canada only. the farther it travels the more carbon tax. So if it comes from China it has a high carbon tax. Wouldn't that promote manufacturing in canada and clean up our environment too?

Being "forced" to go Green is the operative word Carla.I thought we live in a free society. Globalwarmongers seem to like the word "forced". People will adapt no question but the transition will hurt. Until your "Eco station " actually exists how is one supposed to pay their mortgage.

Carla,
If we make manufacturing expensive it won't happen here, without a product to make the jobs simply won't exist.

I will be busy today outside.
Had to get up very early to get housework done.
Discussions will have to be put on hold for today.
And I promise to respond to all questions about every subject later on.
Thank you all.

A carbon tax, with refunds for the poor is just another way to "get those rich people."
To really effect significant reductions we need normal middle class Canadians to change what they do and what they buy.
I don't think the people supporting this tax really understand what they're asking for.
